One common goal we all have is to learn more about language arts curriculum. Not only have we not been students in a K-12 language arts class for some time, but now we must re-examine language arts from a teacher’s perspective. What reading/writing skills should students acquire? When? In addition, what are other branches of language arts that should be incorporated? I noticed that Alison brought up speeches and viewing movies critically. These are both important skills that I did not originally think of, and I’m sure there are more that would be considered language arts. I think it will be valuable for us to learn what is expected of us before we can decide how to fulfill those expectations.
Learning strategies to use to meet those curriculum standards is something that seems important to us all. Monica mentioned making technology applicable in the language arts classroom. Although I am familiar with technology in the classroom, I would like to learn more specific ways to use for language arts. Also, learning about resources beyond this class are also important to me. Alison mentioned sources such as web resources or journals. Collecting resources such as these that will change over time will be useful for life long learning.
